Friday, September 29th
Students had P.E. in the morning, followed by reading centers. Second graders completed a reading assessment on the Themed Story. Students also participated in math centers. To end the week, students made Pumpkin Art to get ready for October. Happy Friday! Have a great and restful weekend! Thursday, September 28th Students participated in Daily Oral Language, and had reading centers. After math centers, we had OT with Mrs. Cameron. Students also worked on Lexia. Wonderful day! Wednesday, September 27th Today, students had music with our music teacher, and worked in their reading centers. This week, we are focusing on the theme of Fantasy vs. Realism. Students also had math centers. Tuesday, September 26th Students worked on their Daily Oral Language activity, and participated in reading and math centers. We also enjoyed Scholastic News and P.E. Monday, September 25th Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Students had their first Art Vista today, where they observed different emotions portrayed in art. They also had reading centers, math centers, and social studies. Week 7 Friday, September 22nd Third grade students attended a field trip to the Marine Science Institute today. It was wonderful and very educational! The second graders had P.E., reading centers, and math centers. Students also created tear Tree Art for the first day of fall. They are looking great hung up in the classroom! Thursday, September 21st Students completed a daily oral language activity, followed by reading and math centers. They also participated in OT with Mrs. Cameron. Great day! Wednesday, September 20th Students had music this morning and reading centers. Today, we had our STEAM teacher come and teacher a Star Wars Breakout lesson, and the student absolutely loved it! They all worked so well together. We had math centers as well. Tuesday, September 19th Students read The Important Book together as a class, and we made our own class book. It was awesome! All of the students came up with one thing that was very important to them, and they each contributed a page in our class book. Students and reading centers and math centers. We had a science lesson in the afternoon, which was fun! Monday, September 18th Students made a poster for Mr. Izor's birthday, and they also participated in reading centers. After math centers today in the afternoon, we had a Social Studies lesson, which focused on landforms and reading maps. Students also worked on Lexia. Week 6 Friday, September 15th Students participated in P.E. with Coach Kim this morning, which was a blast! After reading centers, we took both a class picture and individual pictures in the cafeteria. Students completed their math work at centers, and finished the Geography project they have all been working so hard on! Happy Friday and have a joyful weekend. See you on Monday! Thursday, September 14th Students began the new Scholastic News reading, and collaborated with each other to answer the comprehension questions. Reading and math centers were completed! They had OT with Mrs. Cameron in the afternoon, and they also worked on Lexia. * Reminder: Tomorrow is Picture Day and there is an Ice Cream Social at Guadalupe in the quad from 6:30-8pm. Can't wait to see you all there! :) Wednesday, September 13th Students completed the SRI Reading and also worked in math centers together. They had music in the morning, where they learned about the piano. Students also completed the next math lesson and the next portion of the Geography unit. Tuesday, September 12th Students reviewed the concept of Growth Mindset, which is something we will do continuously throughout the year so we can grow and learn to our highest ability. They worked on their Daily Oral Language activity and completed the KDS Assessment (Math). Students also went to math centers and learned about the United States of America. They continued with their Geography projects. Monday, September 11th Students participated in a Growth Mindset activity, where they watched a Class Dojo video clip explaining Growth Mindset, and worked together as a class to change their mindset from positive to negative. This was helpful for when we started the KDS Assessment today (Reading). After the assessment in the morning, students worked on math in the afternoon and continued their Geography project from last week. Happy Monday! Week 5 Friday, September 8th Students had P.E. with Coach Kim this morning, and they had a blast! After reading and math centers, students moved on to the next portion of the geography project, which covers continents and oceans. Students did wonderful on their spelling assessments. Have a wonderful, restful weekend! *Reminder: Next week on Friday, September 15th is Picture Day. The Picture Day forms were sent home in your child's Friday Folders today. Thursday, September 7th Students completed their Daily Oral Language, and shared their corrections with their peers. Students worked on a reading assessment on their chromebooks, which will also be continued tomorrow. Wednesday, September 6th Students had music this morning with Ms. Hamner, and continued their phonics work. Students reviewed their spelling words based on the Theme 1 story. There is a spelling assessment on Friday, but students do not need to study for it at home. Tuesday, September 5th Students focused on new phonics work in centers and started an awesome Geography project where they created compasses. It was a great day back at school! Monday, September 4th: NO SCHOOL (LABOR DAY) Week 4 Friday, September 1st: NO SCHOOL (STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY) Hope everyone has a wonderful day off! Thursday, August 31st Students worked on their Daily Oral Language, and made Appreciation Cards for Labor Day. Check your child's backpack for those :) We chose someone special in our life who works very hard. Students also started occupational therapy today with Mrs. Cameron. Wednesday, August 30th Students had music this morning with Ms. Hamner where they were able to watch the drums! Students made travel brochures based on the Theme 1 stories. Tuesday, August 29th Third grade students completed a Habitat Diagram to go along with the Theme 1 story they are reading in class. Second graders continued to work on their Dragon Gets By ELA centers, and created a picture walk that describes and illustrates the sequence of events in the stories. They participated in math centers, and finished their Scholastic News activities. Monday, August 28th Hope everyone had a restful weekend and welcome back to school! Students worked on their Daily Oral Language and we changed classroom jobs. Students are enjoying their new responsibilities. We began with reading centers, and the third grade graders began their new textbook. Math centers continued from last week and students also worked on Zearn. We completed a Scholastic News activity, which included animals. We finished with Lexia; what a great day! Week 3 Friday, August 25th Happy Friday! Today, students completed their morning work together and were able to share their answers in front of the whole class. Reading and math centers continued from yesterday. Students created a super fun art project where they wrote about their summers and drew a picture of what they did over the summer in large sunglass cut-outs. They loved it! Thursday, August 24th Today, students focused on answering comprehension questions after reviewing the Theme 1 story and completed another writing activity. Assessments are continuing this week. Students finished their math lesson from yesterday and worked on Lexia. Wednesday, August 23rd Students continued to work on their ELA, vocabulary, and writing centers. They completed a new math lesson, which was very exciting! Additionally, students worked on Zearn and earned their free choice at the end of the day. Tuesday, August 22nd Students worked in Reading group centers, as well as completed reading assessments to measure progress. Students also began math centers and finished the Scholastic News article activities. Monday, August 21st-Solar Eclipse! Happy Monday! Today, students started reading the Houghton and Mifflin ELA curriculum textbook, Theme 1. We have been learning about solar eclipses for the past few days, and the day is finally here! We all got to wear special solar eclipse viewing glasses to view the solar eclipse with the rest of the school outside. Students also made Apple Graphs. We began the Eureka Math Curriculum Lesson 1 today, and reviewed skills and concepts taught last year. Students also read and completed an activity on their first Scholastic News article of the year that focused on what it means to be a good citizen. Week 2 Friday, August 18th Today students worked on their Daily Oral Language packets. It was also the day of the schoolwide Passion Project. Our class participated in the Marshmallow Challenge, where they were given limited supplies and had to build the tallest marshmallow tower. Students worked very well together, and were an awesome team! They wrote about what they learned. Students also participated in a Scholastic News activity. Thursday, August 17th Today students presented their All About Me presentations in front of the whole class! They did wonderful and were supportive of their classmates. Students participated in a writing activity, What I'm Most Excited for About School. They made their personal graphs and discussed Digital Citizenship. This lesson focused on online communities and how to be safe on the Internet. We learned about solar eclipses, and made our classroom goals. It was a great day! Wednesday, August 16th Welcome back to school! Today students worked on their All About Me posters, and participated in activities to get to know their classmates. They attended the Back to School assembly, and all shared their ideas in a class discussion about how to be a great classmate for community building. It's going to be a wonderful year!
